The Black-chested Jay (Cyanocorax affinis) is a striking bird native to the subtropical and tropical forests of Colombia, northwestern Venezuela, Panama, and far eastern Costa Rica. This magnificent bird is easily recognized by its distinctive facial pattern, featuring a mostly black head and throat contrasted with deep indigo upperparts and a white belly. Its long tail, tipped in white, and pale eye add to its visual appeal.
This photograph was taken at Urapanes del Bosque, an eco-lodge nestled in the beautiful Anaime Canyon near Cajamarca, Colombia. As a conservation-focused bird photographer, I am dedicated to capturing the intricate beauty of wildlife and promoting sustainable tourism. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns of the Black-chested Jay in this image highlight the bird’s elegance and the rich biodiversity of its habitat.
